How Maverick Lacrosse became Maverick Lacrosse...
Lacrosse became a San Diego CIF sanctioned sport in 2002. LCC found it’s mojo in 2005, winning its first CIF championship that year. LCC won a 3-peat of CIF championships in 07, 08 and 09. In 2010, there was a coaching change, and the Mavericks ended that season with 12 wins and 9 losses. In 2011, the Mavericks improved to 15-6, but got knocked out of the CIF playoffs by Westview in the first round.
Coach Casey Rector and Coach Lyndsey Wilcox took over as Varsity coaches in 2012. We finished that year with 19 wins and just 1 loss, and a CIF championship vs. Poway. In 2013, we finished 18-2 with a CIF championship vs. Coronado. In 2014, we finished 17-4. After a 2-4 start, we won 15 consecutive games in beating Canyon Crest for our 3rd consecutive CIF championship. In 2015, we finished 20-3 with a tough schedule, and defeated rival Torrey Pines in an unprecedented 4th consecutive CIF championship. Our win loss record over the past 4 years is an impressive 74-10 (.880 win %). LCC has won 8 of the 13 CIF championships, and has competed in several championship games on top of that.
In 2016, LCC played TP in a 2015 rematch of the CIF Open Division Championship, This time the Falcons came out on top and beat the Mavericks for the first time in a Championship game.
Regarding rivals Poway and Torrey Pines: In 2010, when Poway was in our league, we lost all 3 games against them, including a CIF semi-final in OT. In 2011, we lost the 1 game we played against Poway. Since 2012, we’ve won all 5 games, including a CIF final. In 2011, we lost both games we played against TP. Since 2012, we’ve won 11 and lost just 1.
One of the most impressive stats is our win-loss record against San Diego section teams from years 2012-2015... That record is 64 wins and 3 losses (.955 win %).
So this is both a tribute to a Dynasty LCC program and a tribute to our awesome coaches. Our program brings with it the privilege of being a part of a Dynasty program, and the responsibility to carry forward the championship mindset and work ethic.
We are looking forward to continuing our lacrosse story at LCC, we are all proud to be Mavericks! Thank you to all LCC Alumni for your contributions to the program, we look forward to seeing you at the next game!
"Once a Maverick, always a Maverick!"
